Jake Gyllenhaal has been hospitalised
The actor, who co-starred in 2005's Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain, was treated in a hospital emergency room after the accident on the set of Nightcrawler.
"While Jake was filming an intense scene ... his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror. Unfortunately the mirror accidentally broke, and Jake's hand was badly cut up," his spokesperson Mara Buxbaum told AFP.
"He received numerous stitches at the ER and was released a couple hours later. He already returned to set for work," she added.
'Emotionally charged'
In the movie, 32-year-old Gyllenhaal plays a freelance reporter investigating Los Angeles' tought crime underworld. He has lost a lot of weight to prepare for the role, with some photos showing him looking alarmingly gaunt.
The incident happened on set Wednesday morning, according to a source cited by People magazine, adding that he was in character, at the end of an 18-hour day.
"Jake flipped out," the source told the celebrity bible. "His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."
"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him."
The unidentified source added: "It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else."
Lady Gaga would have a three some with her boyfriend included
The Dope singer has been dating actor Taylor Kinney since meeting on the set of her video You and I in July 2012, and though she insists they are in a "monogamous" relationship, she is open to bringing another woman into the bedroom.
Asked by Sirius XM DJ Howard Stern if she would be open to sexual experimentation with more than one partner, she said: "That sounds like fun!"
She then added: "Here's the thing. I'm not the type of person that's having sex all the time with lots of random people. I don't do that. I'm in a monogamous relationship, we're having a good time, we've been together awhile . . . If it were to come up, it comes up."
The 27-year-old singer - who recently admitted battling an addiction to marijuana - feels "lucky" to be dating the 32-year-old hunk because he is accepting of her for who she is and doesn't care about her fame.
No relationship rules
She said: "I'm lucky to be with someone who has a great job and he cares about his job...
"To be fair, he has stuck it out with me for a very long time through drug habits and all those sorts of things. So he's a really lovely, amazing person. And he also doesn't care about me being famous. I'm not famous to him, I'm his baby."
And though they spend a lot of time apart, Gaga insists they don't have "rules" to keep their relationship strong and are comfortable having no contact for days at a time because they have so much trust in one another.
She said: "We don't have any rules about calling each other at certain times ... We'll go days at time without talking and then we'll talk for every day. The way that it really works is that we trust each other.
